Residential Trauma Cleanup Case Study


A traumatic incident had taken place in the bedroom of a client’s property. The extent of damage and contamination was unclear from first observations of the scene and would require further analysis and testing. Ideal Response were chosen to provide trauma clean-up services for their reputation for discretion and effective sanitisation techniques. The task needed to be carried out thoroughly and professionally.

Our Briefing

Assess the extent of contamination with the use of appropriate testing. The bedding and mattress were heavily contaminated and would require correct disposal. Carpet beneath bed to be assessed for contamination and either cleaned and decontaminated or disposed depending on the damage. Risk of contamination from body fluids was present throughout the scene; all technicians will require Personal Protective Equipment. After sanitising all affected areas, a Thermal fog will be applied to the room to help control odours that may be created as a result of the incident.

The Technical Part

This trauma clean-up involved analysis and testing to assess the extent of the contamination at the scene. All bedding, the mattress and the bed were removed for correct, licensed, disposal. The carpet would need to be removed if decontamination was not possible, discussion would take place with the owner. After thorough cleaning and decontamination techniques were deployed throughout the room, a Thermal fog was used to ensure disinfection and to help suppress and control any odours that may have been present. The process of thermal fogging is relatively simple and effective and can be applied by our technicians. Our fogging process uses a powerful water-based counteract-ant which has significantly lower levels of Volatile Organic Levels (VOC’s) than other solvent-based formulas. This results in improved operator and occupant safety. Whilst this is not the most effective solution Ideal Response provides for achieving 100% odour and bacterial elimination it is very popular for it’s cost effectiveness.
