The Situation: A moving hazard
Ideal Response was contacted by a site management company acting on behalf of a large business park in High Wycombe. A visiting van had suffered a significant leak, but rather than a contained spill, the vehicle had continued to travel across the site.
This resulted in a complex trail of oil stretching across multiple roadways, parking bays, and loading areas. Because the spill was spread over such a large, irregular area, the site management team required professional oil spill clean-up intervention to identify the full extent of the contamination and prevent the business park from grinding to a halt.
The Challenge: Safety in a high-traffic environment
The primary obstacle was the nature of the site itself. As an active business park, vehicles, delivery lorries, and pedestrians were in constant motion. The oil created an immediate and significant slip hazard for both foot traffic and vehicles, increasing the risk of falls or collisions.
Furthermore, the threat of environmental contamination was high. With the spill covering a wide area, there was a significant risk of oil entering the surface water drainage systems, an issue that could have led to severe environmental penalties if not contained immediately.

Our Solution: Precision & mechanical agitation
Upon arrival, the Ideal Response team immediately implemented strict Health and Safety protocols. We cordoned off the affected areas using traffic cones and high-visibility barriers to ensure the safety of the public and site staff.
Our remediation strategy involved a multi-stage approach:
- Containment: We prioritised protecting the drainage points to ensure no oil entered the water system.
- Mechanical Agitation: Utilising DIRT Driver surface cleaners and industrial-strength degreasing agents, we broke down the residual oil bonded to the hard surfaces.
- Absorption & Collection: Stiff brooms and road brushes were used to work absorbent materials into the surface textures. The saturated hazardous waste was then safely collected using manual hand tools.
- Final Decontamination: A final low-pressure wash was conducted to ensure the asphalt and concrete were completely free of slippery residue.
The Result: Business as usual
In just two days, the Ideal Response team successfully remediated the entire contamination trail. All hazardous waste was collected, stored in IBCs, and removed from the site for legal disposal.
By acting quickly, we eliminated the slip hazards and protected the local environment from pollution. The business park remained operational throughout the process, and the surfaces were returned to a safe, pre-incident condition, allowing staff and visitors to navigate the site without risk.
