The affected area was below ground and away from the customer-facing parts of the pub, but it was still part of a working commercial premises. Visible mould growth and heavy staining extended across a significant area of the basement surfaces, so this was not a case of treating one isolated patch.
The team needed to work methodically across the affected area, removing loose contamination before applying treatment. Just as importantly, the work had to be controlled so that remediation of the basement did not create unnecessary disturbance elsewhere in the building.
The two-person team attended in full disposable PPE with respiratory protection and established a safe working approach before remediation began.
HEPA-filtered vacuuming was used first to remove loose surface mould from the affected areas. This dry-removal stage reduced the amount of loose contamination present before wet treatment was introduced and gave the technicians a cleaner surface to work from.
The affected basement surfaces were then treated with specialist antimicrobial chemistry. The treatment was applied across the mould-affected areas rather than being limited to the most visually obvious staining, allowing the team to work through the basement systematically. ULV fogging completed the treatment programme. By dispersing a fine treatment mist through the affected space, the fogging stage complemented the detailed surface work and allowed the remediation programme to be completed within the planned site attendance.
The programme was organised so the basement treatment could be completed during one attendance. That required the technicians to progress through the removal, surface-treatment and fogging stages efficiently without reducing the job to a cosmetic clean.
Power and water were available on site, allowing the team to complete the planned remediation without the additional logistical constraints that can complicate work in below-ground commercial spaces.
By the end of the attendance, the affected basement surfaces had been HEPA-vacuumed, treated and fogged, and the heavy visible staining had been substantially improved. The remediation therefore moved the basement from widespread visible mould contamination to a treated condition within the planned one-day programme.
